Hamner this time

We shot off to Hamner Springs last weekend for some time away and it was a very nice weekend. We hired a wee house that had a very good fire and had 2 nights there. Very cool.

Money down the drain

Last week was rather frustrating. I decided I would upgrade some stuff on our PC – I brought some new RAM and that went well. I brought a faster CPU 2nd hand and that did not go well. I installed the CPU and things were running great, but then I was playing around with the BIOS to ensure everything was going right and things went down hill from there – the PC would no longer start.
I brought a new motherboard and since I am writing this on our PC obviously things worked out, but it took 6 hours to find a CPU and motherboard jumper combination to work!

I have a few ideas on what is what now, but since it is all going I am not going to test these theories – better a working computer than not. Maybe I will stick to pre-built PCs from here on in for our main PC and have a separate development/play PC… Or with a good investment in hardware just look at virtual machines.

Boys Only

Joss is in Golden Bay, unfortunately for her Aunty Heather’s funeral. It is just Brook and me at home – so there goes the clean house, the healthy eating, and an increase of beer cans in the recycling bin! Hence Justine, who was coming here this weekend has gone to Alison’s instead.

Joss has had a good time catching up with the family. Tiring but well worth the trip home. She says her parents new house is great.

Brook and I have not been all that bad, we have gone on runs each night – just small ones, but a run none the less. I have been working from home which has been good – working around school hours would mean loosing too much of the working day travelling and that is without a car.

Away from it all

We have just had a nice weekend in Akaroa getting away from it all. The weather was nice and we all just chilled out. We stayed at the house we normally hire which is starting to feel like a second home.

Joss’s family has had a run of bad luck, from the slightly bizarre with Ross probably having Giardia, to the very unfortunate of two aunties diagnosed with Cancer. Not the best start to the year and hopefully the only serious news for the year too.

Good news though is Joss’s parents have moved into their new house last week. I am sure they are pleased about that.

Ready to start

Joss and I are finally over the flu so at last I feel about ready to start the year. I did just over 2 & 1/2 days at work last week and felt shattered! So hopefully this week will be better. Still, first time in nearly 8 years since I last went to the doctor so that is cool.

Looking forward to getting back on my bike – even just to be biking to work and back. I definitely went backwards fitness & weight wise in the last 4 weeks.

We saw the movie “Open Session” this morning. It was reasonable, although any movie that all of the best scenes are shown in the shorts is a little disappointing. Flushed Away is definitely my favourite family movie recently – laugh out loud funny that one.

We spent the afternoon digging out some paving stones around our BBQ area. The area has always missed something and whilst we will probably put in some decking at some stage, once the grass grows this will definitely be an improvement. A little bit of sun burn to prove it might just be summer too.

2007 Starts

Well we are into week 2, day 9 of 2007. I should be at work now but am off sick – I have missed the first 2 working days of the year! Not the best start but better now when things are quite than during a really busy time.

Our Xmas / New Years was good – we were in Golden Bay for nearly 2 weeks. Joss walked the Heaphy Track with her friend Justine over New Years which they really enjoyed. We have been looking for short over night stays for taking Brook on – but there are not many. Might have to look at good places with day walks that we can camp at.

Apart form not feeling 100% and weather, we have had a good break. Not too sure about feeling ready to start another year, but I think we will do a weekend away soon enough and will get back into the swing of things soon too.

You may have noticed the new web site design. I had been thinking about it over the holidays (the lack of computer access was driving me nuts!) and then Joss had taken some great photos so I took the opportunity of not being up to much whilst sick to work on a simple new design. Hope you like it.

Happy New Year to you all.

Turning 60

We are just back from a 4 day weekend in Golden Bay for Joss’s father’s birthday. Ross is the first of our parents to hit 60. It was a great weekend that we all really enjoyed. Ross knew there was a party but not all who was invited & exactly what was going on, so he had a great weekend.

We had a good trip there making good time with only a couple of stops. Then it was a weekend of getting together of family & friends, great food, & a good supply of alcohol (not for Brook). We went fishing at the salmon farm & Brook got to pull in two fish which was great (although not that realistic of a fishing experience for him since we got there before feeding time & the fish may as well have jumped into our bucket).

The travel there & back was an experience in the changeability of New Zealand weather. Heading to GB we had howling nor wester winds, torrential rain, & wonderful sunshine. Heading back today we had sun, rain, snow, and a thunder/lightning storm with huge hail stones thrown in.

The weather for the party could not have been much better so that was good & we had not accidents or saw any on the travel so that too was good.

Beer anyone?

If you are looking for a beer, then check out Invercargill Brewery. I recently designed the website & I am interested in any feedback. I know I need to clean up a couple of things, but I am interested in what you think.

I did the website for free – after learning about the beer during a recent trip to Invercargill. I checked out their website & thought it needed a revamp to match such a great beer range. So I offered to redesign it.
