Weekend away

We are just back from a quick weekend away in Akaroa. It was a great weekend and we all had a great time. The decision to go was only made a week beforehand – we really needed a weekend without any jobs & a chance to have a relaxing time.

The weather was good, we parked the car in the garage & walked everywhere. It was a reasonably indulgent weekend but it was what we needed.

Hot weather

It feels like summer is here – a very hot day today (not that it was that warm yesterday). But we got our pool out as it does seem like the good weather is outweighing the bad.

Joss has returned to work after two weeks off with school holidays. She is still very pleased with herself getting her belly button pierced. I hear much the same for Justine & her tat. Brook is pleased to be back at school with all his friends & activities each day. And we are pleased he is back at school too!

Last weekend we went to the new walking track at the Waimakariri River Regional Park (McLeans Island). They have a new park with a dedicated walking/running track and a dedicated mountain bike track. There were heaps of cyclists and the odd walker. Brook made it around the 10km track very well. We are looking forward to doing the cycle track. It is all one way & in open trees so will be lots of fun.

Speaking of which, I was back off road with my bike today – the first time in a couple of months almost. It felt great. I have to do something about my rear brake – it is just not right.

Brook lost his first tooth and has another almost ready to come out – so he is growing up about as fast as this year has zoomed by.

And Joss & Justine have booked in their Heaphy Track tramp over New Years.

Girls Weekend

Joss is in Wellington with Justine for a weekend away – what did they get up to? Apart from the expected hours on hours of clothes shopping, Joss comes away with a belly button piercing & Justine with a tattoo! Yip clearly hangovers were not enough for these girls.

Brook & I have had a good weekend – trips on the bus & tram, heaps of junk food, DVDs, and bike rides. Today a trip to the movies before tidying up the house.

Rough Night

What a night that was – Brook was vomiting from about 11pm to 4am. We are not sure if it was something like a tummy bug or concussion from the large bump on his head he got from school that day. We went in to check on him as he’d been making noise – just really thinking we’d pull up his blankets but found he’d probably thrown up about 3 times. One set of bed sheets, PJs, etc & put him back only to have him throw up again 5mins after going back to bed.

We then sat up with him for nearly an hour where he threw up 3odd times. Finally back in bed (the third set of bed sheets) and again 5-10min in and he throws up again – this time mostly in a bucket. Not sure what time this was, but he carried on waking up & throwing up in the bucket about hourly until 4am.

He is feeling ok now (after getting up at 6am!) – not too keen on food and a little tired (Joss & I are feeling more tired but I am guessing he will crash this afternoon). We are on about the 6th load of washing with at least one more needed, both of his bunk matrices are out airing, the house being aired to dry spots on the carpet… we are hoping for a better night tonight!

I am home with Brook today, Joss is at work. I had thought about working from home today but with little documentation work at the moment, and feeling tired I thought a sick day was better.

Sick during the holidays

Brook is under the weather as the saying goes. Today he has not eaten anything & basically watched TV or slept all day. We are hoping he is right for school on Monday. Being sick during school holidays is not an issue, just not so easy now that Joss is back working for being sick out of the holidays.

In other news Jenny is coming back to NZ from Oz. Time for a change I think.

5 years Old

Brook’s Birthday today! What a full on, and very enjoyable day! Starting with the biggest present pile I have seen to a couple hours of running around at McDs with his friends. Fun was had by all – and the cake was brilliant!

Flying Start

Both Brook & Joss had a flying start to school and work this week. Brook threw up in class so the office called Joss at work – one hour in on her first day at work in 6 years and Joss has to leave for the day to pick up Brook!

So today I am home for the morning looking after Brook & Joss is at work – the first time in five years I have really had to take sick time for Brook so that is good going. Hopefully Brook is good to go back to school tomorrow. He is counting down the days to he is five years old! At a guess it is presents he is wanting the most, but he is really keen to be five & to be full time school boy too.

First Day at school

That was one excited boy! He got to school & just ran around all over the place! It took all three of us (Brook’s teacher, Joss & I) some convincing to get Brook to go into the class room – he just wanted to be playing outside on the big kid’s playground. It was great to be there and see Brook at school. It looked a really good friendly & safe environment for him. Once we got Brook into the class he just lapped it up & probably did not notice Joss & I disappearing for an hour or so before picking him up at lunch time.

Next week he does mornings then starts all day after his birthday. The only disappointment for Brook was that starting school did not mean he was five years old. We had spent the last year saying he would start school when he turned five but now he is doing mornings a week early & that has confused the matter a little (especially when they did the standard singing of happy birthday to him at his leaving day at kindy).
