Brooks Last day at kindy

The time has come. Brook was very excited & loved being up the front at mat time.

Starting School

Today we brought Brook his school uniform – man that just seems so crazy, it is hard to believe he is almost 5 years old. Joss & Brook had a school visit on Friday though kindy. Brook was really comfortable there and Joss was very pleased with what she saw too. So it looks like he will start half days the week before his birthday and then all day after his birthday.

New frame is coming

Yip, my frame is being replaced under warranty so that is very cool – 5450km of riding is not a lot in the 17 months I have had this bike.

The replacement frame is a 2006 Kula Primo (apparently). I am really looking forward to it and rocking on my bike again.

Update 7 May
Frame is here now and my stuff gets swapped over on Wednesday – very cool. I should have been brave & picked it up and taken my stuff off the loaner over the weekend & returned their frame & set up my bike myself – but I have never done that much DIY maintenance and just do not have the tools at the mo. Anyway, this way there is no comeback on me if there is an issue with it or the setup, so it is the smarter way to go. Next weekend – zooming though the forest on my half new bike!

Oh Crack!

That has done it – yip my bike frame cracked! The crack goes around about 80-90% of the horizontal tube just by the join with the seat post. Damn!

What did I do? Nothing that I know of. I was riding in the forest and noticed my bike was making creaking noises. It sounded like it was coming from up front, so I checked out my shifters and brake levers – then the frame and finally noticed this.

So, I have dropped it off at the bike shop who is going to send photos off to Kona. It should be covered by warranty – I have never been in a race, and was not doing jumps or the alike.

Fingers crossed!

That rocked! what took me so long?

I finally got back on the bike for a mountain bike ride today – it seems to have been absolutely ages since I have gone for a ride. Sure I have been biking to work, but that is a little different.

With work commitments then being sick, there was a few weeks I just could not ride – but the last few weeks I kept talking myself out of rides.

But today I dragged my butt out and man I was pleased I did! The ride through the forest rocked – apart from the damage from the fires some idiots started. Some tracks have been ripped up by the bulldozers and others closed with tree felling. But that did not stop a great ride. So I am pleased to be back on the bike again.

and the sign said

And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply – brilliant, the lyrics in the song “Don’t let the man” by Fatboy Slim. Just brought the album Palookaville – very different from the others, but brilliant again. Check it out now on http://www.fatboyslim.net.

And us? Apart from digging our new tunes we are still trying to get over this flu we have all had – Joss had ~30 hours of being sick (in the toilet kind) at the end of the week just to remind us we were not over it. So far I have not had that – but we are all hanging out to finally feeling 100% again. Over 10 days now…

So there has not been a lot else happening (including work with me off for a chunk of the last week).

Sick

A day off work? sounds great, but the family has spent the weekend all with colds or possibly the flu, and we are not all on the mend yet. Brook is watching a video with a bucket in front of him – you can picture the day we have had, which is not fun when you are sick yourself.

But enough of that – we had a great weekend in Hamner last week and with my Twizel project out of the way, we are ready for some great family time and hopefully a more sedate year. We have been doing a few family bike rides together and Joss is really enjoying the riding and getting into it. A family of mountain bikers – the best there is.
Later Days.

Hamner Visit

Just back from our trip to Hamner Springs. It was a great holiday, even though Brook was reasonably sick. The place we stayed out was nice enough – had everything we needed.

The pools were very relaxing. We did not get to ride our bikes as much as we planned, but we got more rest and time out to read our books so that was very good.
