Jumping Chain

Not happy on my ride today. I replaced my chain thinking I was doing some preventative maintenance – replace every 6 months type thing to make the most of the rear cluster (cogs, free-wheel, chainset or what ever other name people seem to call them). But not 5min into my ride and my chain started jumping. And it did not really matter what gear I was in.

So I was hoping for a $30 job but it looks like it is going to cost a lot more now. Not too happy about it, as the bike is only 6 months old – but that is not a case of poor quality of the bike, it is more the amount of riding and the condition. I ride in the forest by the beach – lots of sand! whilst I clean it after every ride, there is only so much you can do. Joys of that track. Just annoyed that I did not replace it sooner – I said I would do it before 2000km and have done 2500km.

Not too sure if I will take it in to get done, or buy the parts and tools and do it myself. $$ will be the deciding factor. Problem is my favourite parts shop does not sell the cheaper parts – hey with all the sand why bother with the expensive ones? It came with Shimano Deore (11-32 9 speed) and that shifts fine, so no point putting in the $ for something better that is just going to be eaten up as quickly.
